Apoorva Raga Kruti Manjari by Nallan Chakravarthy Murthy

About this book......

The name Apoorva Raga connotes rare ragas which either did not exist earlier or have not been in use by musicians in their performances. Carnatic music is a treasure house of innumerable ragas with the imagination of the musician as its limit.

Carnatic music has come a long way in the past few centuries. The sastra and the tradition which are like a flowing river, underwent phenomenal transformation due to the intellectual creativity of the various musicians or due to the interaction between the musics of different regions. The creations by the great musical Trinity has put the Carnatic music on a strong base.

Among the post-trinity composers, a mention should be made about Muthiah Bhagavatar who made a conscious effort to create new compositions in new ragas for the first time.

Padmavibhushan, Chevalier Dr Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna, the living legend of Carnatic music in this century made new innovations in creating new ragas and creating new compositions to extend the existing knowledge of Carnatic music.

It is the inspiration of these great Vaggeyakaras which has triggered my urge to compose in Apoorva ragas and contribute to further extend the existing knowledge of Carnatic music.

The book entitled "Apoorva Raga Kruti Manjari" has 100 new compositions created by me in the ragas in which no compositions have been made so far.

It is hoped that Musicians and the students of the music world will receive these compositions with openness and perform these new compositions and the new ragas and serve the development of Carnatic music.
