Dwādasa Tillāna Māla by Nallan Chakravarthy Murthy

Tillanas though traditionally are associated with Dance, have become a significant number in classical music performances. They are the culminating numbers of Carnatic music cutcheris. The name is derived from the mridanga syllables thi. la. na. They are usually in the medium tempo although traditional musicians have created some chowka kala tillanas also.

Dwadasa Tillana Mala is a set of twelve new tillanas adding to the repertoire of tillanas. The book also contains a tillana in the swarantara raga MAHATI. This is the first of its kind in history. The book also contains tillanas in ragas like Reetigowla and Hamsavinodini which have not so far been chosen for tillanas and a tillana in a not very familiar but interesting raga Varnam. Kunjari is another rare raga in which not much contribution has been made.

Musicians and students of music will find these tillanas interesting to add these to their stock of compositions.
